NSF EPSCoR Program

NSF

The NSF EPSCoR program builds research capacity and competitiveness in states that historically receive a disproportionately small share of federal research funding. Established in 1979, EPSCoR operates across all NSF disciplines and supports institutions, researchers, and statewide research ecosystems.

Purpose

EPSCoR is designed to:

  • Increase competitiveness for NSF funding
  • Strengthen research infrastructure and institutions
  • Develop the STEM workforce
  • Support regional innovation and economic growth
  • Reduce geographic concentration of federal R&D funding

Eligibility

  • States and territories qualify if they receive 0.75% or less of NSF funding over a multi-year period.
  • Currently, 25 states, the District of Columbia, and several U.S. territories are eligible.
